Compounding is the art and science of preparing personalised medications for patients. Compounded medications are prepared specifically for a patient based on your doctors prescription. Your doctor will specify the exact quantities of medicines to be mixed and incorporated into the final product.
Compounded medicines are custom made for each and every patient for a number of reasons:
Some medicines have an unpleasant flavour, our pharmacist can flavour medications to make them more palatable without compromising the medications effectiveness. This is especially handy when dealing with medications for patients who may refuse medication such as young children, particularly fussy patients or even pets.

You may need your medication in a different dosage form. For instance if you or someone you know has difficulty swallowing a pill it may be easier to take medication in a pleasantly flavoured liquid form or lollipop. Some medications can be compounded in a topical form such as a cream or a gel that allows the medicine to be absorbed into the blood stream through the skin.
Sometimes a large pharmaceutical manufacturer discontinues the supply of a medicine. In some cases we can re-create that medication by compounding it for you.
